Monday Summary: What Happened May 11- May 17

Such a hopeful title for this week's summary. The word "solve" seems so complete in itself, pure, simple and direct. Yet, the word conveys nothing of the intense, often frantic, collaborative effort; nothing of the sparking brainstorms; and, nothing, nada, of the result. The result is the rub, so to speak, in our puzzles this week. And this Monday morning finds us still processing the fallout....

But before we goblam there, let's check in on our characters and see how their week has been. Marcus flew off to Switzerland on Thursday for vacation, but we have his number just in case. Remember when we thought Melody was his girlfriend? As did she? {We get the straight story on tape, thanks to Elias(the new security guard) and she wasn't and she's not.} Good thing too, her love life quickly picks up thanks to Thad who, when last seen, is running away from hecopycatcopycatr. Is it her tendancy to bury her face, perhaps the infamous velour jogging suit? No, he's tripping down her stairs because once he "starts kissing her he would never want to stop." He's 45. She's 30.

We learn a little more about Thad,he misses the military but loves small towns, he carries acopycat gun, he wonders if TOBI will become self-aware,and he lets me into the Restorers as I've earned his trust. He likes Melody but thinks he may be too old for her.

The new character Stephcopycaten Lake enters our lives and some of us will never ever be the same again. Alecia Church follows closely on his heels. We find Ms. Church through a puzzle that Mr. Lake gives us. We go through a circus of YIM status messages, IRC chats and assorted hints as he counts down the clock toward some unclear doom. Eurekcopycata! A Solve! We find the sophie page. Is it the diary of a characters inner thoughts?A list of passwords? No, another puzzle. copycatQuick spec that numbers in the source code are atomic weights. Lightning fast we find the periodic table. The weights correlate to a word, (a solve!) our speedy typists seek the URL, no luck. Typo. In the solve. Undeterred we correct and enter the new site breathless with anticipation.

And there's nothing.

See what I mean about "solve"? Within a few minutes, while we moan about this latest injustice hurled undeservedly upon us, the site becomes password protected and we arecopycat out. Except, we have the site name and access to "WHOIS" and we already know Alecia Church's name. We know that she is trying to take over Ideltech. e-mails are quickly fired off at 3:00am EST. Steve Lake is questioned.

The next day the furious Mr. Lake appears. We talk to him. We shouldn't have sent the e-mails, we are truly undeserving, we are the epitome of virtual bulls in virtual china shops. We are the cautionary tale with the moral of "look before you leap." We are Macbeth's ambition.

Ms. Church threatens some of the email senders. Marcus is winging his way to Switzerland. TOBI broke in to the site, there is a "hit-list." Ms. Church proves how much she can find out about us with no effort. Still angry, Mr. Lake is not our guardian angel. We need to have a coordinated strategy if we are a group. Thad evinces concern while showing us that he knows more than some of us thought.copycat What contacts does he have--we start to wonder a bit about who he really is.

AND A LATE BREAKING BULLETIN

Marcus' car is bombed on Monday afternoon. He just flew in from Switzerland and unpacked. As he leaves the office and is going to his car, he unlocks the door with his remote. Push button, bomb explodes, car blows up. Marcus was thrown 20 feet and not badly hurt, we talk to him later. Most people believe that Alecia is behicopycatnd this, trying to scare Marcus.
